Las Vegas, Nev. – A local man was sentenced on December 10, 2007, to 22 years in prison and five years of supervised release for trafficking large amounts of crack cocaine in Las Vegas, announced Steven W. Myhre, United States Attorney for the District of Nevada.

Carl Chester, 25, was convicted by a federal jury in April of three counts of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of crack cocaine. The evidence introduced at trial indicated that Chester distributed a total of approximately seven ounces of crack cocaine in Las Vegas on three occasions between May 30 and June 28, 2006. He sold the cocaine to a confidential source who was working in an undercover capacity for the Government.

The Court increased Chester's sentence for obstruction of justice, finding that he testified falsely under oath at his trial. Chester has a lengthy criminal record, including two prior convictions for crimes of violence.

The case was investigated by the DEA and Clark County Gang Task Force and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kathleen Bliss.
