Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced today the appointments of Karl Metzner as Chief of the Organized Crime Unit, Daniel Goldman as Deputy Chief of the Organized Crime Unit, and Richard Tarlowe as Co-Chief of the Complex Frauds Unit. Mr. Bharara also announced the appointments of Jennifer Rodgers as a Deputy Chief of the Appeals Unit and Jenna Dabbs as Deputy Chief of the Narcotics Unit.

Mr. Metzner joined the Office in 1998. Prior to being named Chief of the Organized Crime Unit, he served as Chief of the Narcotics Unit. Mr. Metzner also held positions as Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division and a Deputy Chief of the Appeals Unit. He recently was a member of the trial team that obtained the trial conviction of former New York City Councilman Larry Seabrook on public corruption charges. After law school, Mr. Metzner clerked for the Honorable James K. Logan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Mr. Metzner is a graduate of Washington University and the Duke University School of Law.

Mr. Goldman joined the Office in 2007. Prior to being named Deputy Chief of the Organized Crime Unit, he served as a line prosecutor in the Unit. During his tenure, Mr. Goldman helped convict Arthur Nigro, the Acting Boss of the Genovese Crime Family, on racketeering and murder charges. Following law school, Mr. Goldman clerked for the Honorable Charles R. Breyer of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and the Honorable Robert D. Sack of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He is a graduate of Yale College and Stanford Law School.

Mr. Tarlowe joined the Office in 2007. Prior to being named Co-Chief of the Complex Frauds Unit, he served as a member of the Securities and Commodities Fraud Unit. Most recently, he was a member of the trial team that successfully prosecuted Rajat Gupta for insider trading and, prior to that, the trial team that secured the convictions of Zvi and Emanuel Goffer, and Michael Kimmelman, on securities fraud charges. Prior to joining the Office, Mr. Tarlowe worked at Morvillo, Abramowitz, Grand, Iason, Anello & Bohrer, and also was an Adjunct Instructor of Law at Brooklyn Law School. He graduated summa cum laude from Duke University and magna cum laude from Harvard Law School.

Ms. Rodgers joined the Office in 2000. Prior to being named a Deputy Chief of the Appeals Unit, she served as the Chief, Co-Chief, and Deputy Chief of the Organized Crime Unit, and as Co-Chief of the General Crimes Unit. Prior to joining the Office, Ms. Rodgers clerked for the Honorable Stanley A. Weigel of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California and worked as an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York. Ms. Rodgers is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley.

Ms. Dabbs joined the Office in 2006. Prior to being named Deputy Chief of the Narcotics Unit, she worked in the International Narcotics Trafficking Unit, and then in the Terrorism and International Narcotics Unit when Mr. Bharara merged the Terrorism and International Narcotics Units. She also worked in the Securities and Commodities Fraud Unit. Ms. Dabbs has been the lead task force attorney for the Southern District on the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (“OCDETF”), since the Spring of 2009. With her new position, Ms. Dabbs also becomes the Regional Coordinator for OCDETF for the New York/New Jersey region. Following law school, Ms. Dabbs clerked for the Honorable Denise Cote of the Southern District of New York, and worked as a litigation associate in the New York Office of Covington & Burling. Ms. Dabbs graduated Wesleyan University and Columbia Law School, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar and a member of the Columbia Law Review.
