MANHATTAN U.S. ATTORNEY ANNOUNCES THE APPOINTMENT OF LORIN L. REISNER AS CHIEF OF THE CRIMINAL DIVISION

Former Criminal Division Chief Richard B. Zabel Promoted to Position of Deputy U.S. Attorney
Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, today announced the appointment of Lorin L. Reisner as Chief of the Office’s Criminal Division.
Mr. Reisner returns to the U.S. Attorney’s Office after working most recently for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as the Deputy Director of the Enforcement Division since 2009. In that capacity Mr. Reisner helped set enforcement priorities for the Agency, supervised the work of the Division’s more than 900 investigative professionals, and oversaw trial and related litigation activity. During his tenure, Mr. Reisner was involved in the investigation and filing of many significant cases, including enforcement actions against Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Citigroup, Wachovia Corporation, New Century Financial, and IndyMac Bancorp. He also worked closely with the Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and other federal and state agencies.
Prior to joining the SEC, Mr. Reisner was a litigation partner at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in New York from 1996 to 2009. At Debevoise, he worked on complex white collar representations, government investigations, and business litigation. From 1990 until 1994, Mr. Reisner was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District, where he investigated and prosecuted financial crimes, public corruption, and racketeering offenses. He graduated from Brandeis University in 1983 and Harvard Law School in 1986. After law school, he clerked for the Honorable Milton Pollack of the Southern District of New York.
Mr. Reisner replaces Jonathan Kolodner, who will now serve as Special Counsel to the U.S. Attorney. Mr. Kolodner had been appointed as Acting Chief in October 2011, following the promotion of Richard B. Zabel to the position of Deputy U.S. Attorney. Mr. Zabel had served as Chief of the Criminal Division since 2009.
