Moustapha Lo, age 34, of Mayfield Heights, was sentenced to more than two years in prison for operating a scheme to defraud UPS, said Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio.
Lo previously pleaded guilty to 15 counts of wire fraud, 10 counts of mail fraud, and one count of trafficking in counterfeit goods. He was sentenced 27 months incarceration followed by three years supervised release and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $1,093,771.73 to UPS.
Lo is also subject to deportation proceedings following his prison term. Among other things, Mr. Lo was convicted of devising a scheme to defraud UPS by creating fraudulent UPS shipping accounts from which millions of dollars in shipments were made throughout the country.
The conviction and sentence is a result of an investigation conducted by the Cyber Crimes Center in Washington, D.C., and the Cleveland office of the Department of Homeland Security. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Christos N. Georgalis and Robert W. Kern.
