Toledo Sex offender charged for failing to register

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 3, 2012

Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, today announced an information was filed against Richard J. Morrison, age 29, of Toledo, Ohio. The charge relates to the failure to register as a sex offender under the Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act.

If convicted, the sentence in this case will be determined by the court under the advisory Federal Sentencing Guidelines which depend upon a number of factors unique to each case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, the defendant’s role in the offense and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and in most cases it will be less than the maximum.

The investigating agency in this case is the United States Marshals Service, Toledo, Ohio. The case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas O. Secor.

An information is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
