Akron man charged with bank robbery
A federal grand jury returned an indictment against Richard Starr, age 42, of Akron, Ohio, for bank robbery, said Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio.
According to the indictment, Starr walked into the Key Bank on Medina Road on June 5, 2012, and gave the teller a demand note. The teller refused to take the note and Starr fled the bank.
He was apprehended in a wooded area near the bank by Bath Police Police Department with the assistance of Copley and Fairlawn Police Departments, according to the indictment.
The indictment results from an investigation conducted by the Bath Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was presented for indictment by Assistant United States Attorney Linda H. Barr.
If convicted, the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the court after review of factors unique to this case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, the defendant’s role in the offense and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases, the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and in most cases it will be less than the maximum.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
