t Michael Alexander, Jr., age 26, of Euclid, Ohio, has been indicted on charges of possessing heroin and being a felon in possession of a firearm, said Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio.

The indictment alleges that Alexander possessed heroin with the intent to distribute on August 1, 2012. Alexander is also alleged to have possessed a firearm after being convicted of a felony offense on August 1, 2012.

Alexander’s previous felony convictions include gross sexual imposition, attempt to incite to violence, and conspiracy to distribute cocaine, according to court records.

The indictment of Alexander results from an investigation conducted by the Northern Ohio Law Enforcement Task Force (NOLETF), the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Euclid Police Department.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Matthew W. Shepherd.

If convicted, the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the court after review of factors unique to this case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases, the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and in most cases it will be less than the maximum.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt.

A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
