Bethlehem Resident Charged with Possession Of Child Pornography
Today the grand jury returned an Indictment charging Niyaz Sainudeen, 40, of Bethlehem, PA, with distribution, receipt and possession of child pornography, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. The indictment charges Sainudeen with two counts of distributing child pornography, in July and October of 2011, one count of receipt of child pornography, and one count of possessing child pornography on March 8, 2012.
If convicted of all charges, the defendant faces a maximum possible sentence of 70 years imprisonment with a mandatory minimum of 5 years imprisonment.
The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joan E. Burnes.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
