New Jersey Men Charged In Attacks At independence hall
An Indictment was unsealed November 21, 2012 charging Santos Centeno, 46, and Baldwin Centeno, 25, of Camden, New Jersey, with two separate attacks on victims near Independence Hall, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on June 16, 2012 and June 20, 2012, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. The pair allegedly robbed their victims of money and cell phones. They are each charged with assault on federal property resulting in serious bodily injury, assault on federal property by striking, beating or wounding, and robbery on federal property.
If convicted, each of the defendants faces a statutory maximum sentence of 41 years in prison, $1.25 million, three years of supervised release, and a $500 special assessment.
The case was investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department and the National Park Service, United States Department of the Interior, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Denise S. Wolf.
