two charged in alleged Conspiracy to rob drug dealers
Abdul Johnson, 34, and Karim Williams, 32, both of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, were charged today by indictment with participating in a conspiracy to rob drug dealers, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. According to the indictment, Johnson devised a plan for the home invasion robbery of drug dealer and then recruited Williams to help carry out the plan.
The indictment alleges that on August 10, 2012, Johnson held a planning meeting in a parking lot in Philadelphia. At that meeting, Johnson allegedly said that he might shoot his robbery victim “in the face just because.” The robbery plan was thwarted. Johnson and Williams are charged with conspiracy to commit a Hobbs Act robbery, attempted commission of a Hobbs Act robbery, conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine, attempted possession with intent to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine, carrying a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence; and convicted felons in possession of a firearm.
If convicted of all charges, the defendants each face a maximum possible sentence of life in prison with a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jeanine Linehan.
