pair Charged in counterfeiting Conspiracy
Darryl Kelley, 53, of Washington, DC, and Jamel Hampton, 52, of Brooklyn, NY, were charged today by Indictment with conspiracy to pass and passing counterfeit United States currency, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. The Indictment alleges that from in or about December 2011 to in or about April 2012, Kelley, Hampton, and others passed approximately $27,500 of counterfeit $100 Federal Reserve Notes at Macy’s Department Stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.
If convicted, Kelley faces a statutory maximum possible sentence of 65 years and Hampton faces a statutory maximum possible sentence of 25 years.
The case was investigated by U.S. Secret Service, the Springfield Township (PA) Police Department, the Abington Township (PA) Police Department, and the Fairfax County (VA) Police Department, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anita Eve.
