Man With Explosive At Airport Formally Indicted

PHILADELPHIA - Joseph Picklo, 29, of Dallas, PA, was formally indicted today on charges that he attempted to carry an explosive device on to a plane on March 29, 2012. Picklo was being screened at the Philadelphia International Airport for a United Airlines flight to San Francisco. According to the indictment, a plastic bottle filled with an explosive substance was found in his luggage. Picklo was arrested by the Philadelphia Police Department and then transferred to federal custody. He is charged with one count of possessing an explosive in an airport and one count of carrying an explosive on an aircraft.

If convicted of the charges, Picklo faces a maximum possible sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release.

The case is being investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department, the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Transportation Security Administration, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
