Local Man Admits Filing False Income Tax Return
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar announced today, April 5, 2010, that Joseph Mancuso, a resident of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of filing a false income tax return.
Mancuso pleaded guilty to 1 count before United States District Judge Donetta W. Ambrose.
In connection with the guilty plea, Assistant United States Attorney Leo M. Dillon advised the court that, for the calendar years 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005, Mancuso filed false federal income tax returns in which he understated his income by failing to report income for which he received no 1099 forms. The tax loss in failing to report such income was calculated at $29,795.
Judge Ambrose scheduled sentencing for August 4, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. The law provides for a total sentence of 3 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant. Pending sentencing, the court continued defendant's bond.
The Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation conducted that led to the prosecution of Mancuso.
