Pittsburgh Man Pleads Guilty To Robbing Two Area Banks In 2009
PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ A resident of Pittsburgh, Pa., pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of bank robbery, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
Ricardo Marrero, 30, pleaded guilty to two counts before Senior United States District Judge Gustave Diamond.
In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that Marrero robbed the First Commonwealth Bank in Etna on Feb. 9, 2009, and the First Commonwealth Bank in Dormont on Feb. 25, 2009.
Judge Diamond scheduled sentencing for March 20, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. The law provides for a total sentence of 40 years in prison, a fine of $500,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Pending sentencing, the court ordered that Marrero remain detained without bond.
Assistant United States Attorney Barbara K. Swartz is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Richard Marrero.
