Illegal Alien Sentenced For Re‑Entering U.S. Without Permission
PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ Acting United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar announced today, July 12, 2010, that on July 9, 2010, Gilevaldo Cruz-Jaimes, a resident of Mexico, pleaded guilty and was sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh to time served and remanded to the custody of United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement ("ICE") for deportation on his conviction of violating federal immigration laws.
United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti imposed the sentence on Cruz-Jaimes, age 32, of Mexico.
According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney A. Elliot McLean, Cruz-Jaimes, an alien from Mexico, was removed from the United States on November 5, 2005, and then reentered the United States and was found in Mercer County on or about January 29, 2010, without having applied for and received permission from the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
Mr. Cessar commended the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Mercer County Sheriff's Office for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Cruz-Jaimes.
