Firearms Dealer Sentenced To Probation For Falsifying Records
PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ Acting United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar announced today, July 14, 2010, that Edward J. Vinay, a resident of Munhall, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh to three years probation, including one month of home detention, on his conviction of violating federal firearms laws.
Senior United States District Judge Gustave Diamond imposed the sentence on Vinay, age 53.
According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Gregory J. Nescott, Vinay, formerly a federally‑licensed firearms dealer and owner of a gun shop in Munhall, falsified firearms transaction records. Following a search of his shop by agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Vinay surrendered his federal firearms license and closed his shop. He will be barred from ever reapplying for a license to sell firearms.
Mr. Cessar commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Edward J. Vinay.
