Felon Sentenced To 7 1/2 Years In Prison For Possessing Pistol
PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ Acting United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar announced today, July 22, 2010, that on July 21, 2010, Shawn Leon Rose, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh to 90 months in prison followed by 3 years supervised release on his conviction of violating federal firearms laws.
Senior United States District Judge Gustave Diamond imposed the sentence on Rose, age 37.
According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Charles A. Eberle, on August 23, 2008, Rose, a convicted felon, possessed a Hi‑Point, Model C9, 9mm caliber pistol. Rose was previously convicted in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County on August 4, 1994, of the crime of robbery. Robbery is a crime that is punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year. Federal law prohibits anyone who has been convicted of a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year to possess a firearm.
This case was prosecuted under Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaborative effort by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and communities to prevent, deter and prosecute gun crime.
Mr. Cessar commended the Pennsylvania State Police ‑ Uniontown barracks, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Rose.
