Judge Accepts Guilty Plea Of Tax Cheat
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Acting United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar announced today, June 8, 2010, that John C. Gedekoh, III pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of filing a false tax return.
Gedekoh pleaded guilty to one count before Senior United States District Judge Maurice B. Cohill, Jr.
In connection with the guilty plea, Assistant United States Attorney Luke E. Dembosky advised the court that Gedekoh knowingly filed false federal income tax returns for the years 2002 through 2005 by understating his gross receipts. The total amount alleged to have been understated for the years charged is $223,161.81.
Judge Cohill scheduled sentencing for September 21, 2010. The law provides for a maximum sentence of three years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
The Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Gedekoh.
