Halfway House Escapee To Spend 6 Years In Prison For Bank Robbery

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Acting United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar announced today, June 10, 2010, that Christopher Hoffman, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh to 72 months in prison followed by 3 years supervised release.  Hoffman was further ordered to pay $2,800 in restitution on his conviction of bank robbery.

United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab imposed the sentence on Hoffman, age 32.

According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller, on August 29, 2006, Hoffman, after escaping from a halfway house the previous day, robbed the Fifth Third Bank, located at 5834 Forbes Avenue in Pittsburgh.

Mr. Cessar commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pittsburgh Police Department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Hoffman.
