Pittsburgh Man Sentenced For Using Stolen Credit Card Numbers At Area Stores
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Acting United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar announced today, June 11, 2010, that Mark Mitchell, a resident of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh to 24 months incarceration to be followed by 3 years supervised release on his conviction of Conspiracy to Commit Offense Against the United States.
United States District Judge Terrence F. McVerry imposed the sentence on Mitchell, age 22.
According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Gregory C. Melucci, Mitchell along with Alfonso Evans and Ramar Grant, passed stolen credit card account numbers at numerous Getgo and RiteAid stores in Western Pennsylvania to purchase merchandise and gift cards. The government estimates losses totaling more than $180,000.
Prior to imposing sentence, Judge McVerry considered the defendant's need for just punishment, respect for the law, and adequate deterrence of future criminal activity.
Mr. Cessar commended the Postal Inspection Service as well as officers from the Hopewell Township, Northern Regional and Allegheny County Police for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Mark Mitchell.
