Convicted Braddock Sex Offender Gets Jail For Guns
PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ A resident of North Braddock, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court to 30 months in prison and three years supervised release on his conviction of violating federal firearm laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
Chief United States District Judge Gary L. Lancaster imposed the sentence on Shawreed J. Fitzgerald, 22.
According to information presented to the court, Fitzgerald possessed a loaded .40 caliber semi‑automatic Smith and Wesson pistol and ammunition, on December 2, 2009, after having been previously convicted on January 1, 2009, on charges of sexual assault, indecent assault on a person less than 13 years old, and corruption of minors. The charges involved two different children.
Prior to imposing sentence, Judge Lancaster was advised that the defendant's criminal history started at the age of 13, that he was released from jail on his sex offenses less than 11 months before the gun incident and that Fitzgerald had been shot on two different recent dates.
Assistant United States Attorney Ross E. Lenhardt prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Attorney Hickton commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearm and Explosives, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Braddock Police Department and the Allegheny County Police Department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Fitzgerald.
