Maine Man Facing Charges In Allegheny National Forest Incident
ERIE, Pa. ‑ A former resident of Anson, Maine has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Erie on charges of aggravated sexual abuse, kidnapping, using and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
The five‑count indictment named Mike Beaulieu, 35, as the sole defendant.
According to the indictment presented to the court, on or about August 3, 2010 in the Allegheny National Forest, Beaulieu kidnapped a female and used a handgun to force her to engage in a sexual act. In addition, Beaulieu restrained the victim's boyfriend during the course of the kidnapping. Beaulieu was a felon at the time he possessed the .45 caliber pistol.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of life in prison, a fine of $1,250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Marshall J. Piccinini is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Pennsylvania State Police and the United States Forest Service, Law Enforcement and Investigations, conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
