Judge Sentences Heroin Courier To Ten Years In Prison
PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ A resident of Pittsburgh, Pa., has been sentenced in federal court to 121 months (ten years, one month) in prison followed by five years supervised release on her conviction of violating federal narcotics laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
United States District Judge David S. Cercone imposed the sentence on Victoria Morgan, 26.
According to information presented to the court, from in or around 1999, and continuing thereafter until in or around May 2008, Morgan conspired to distribute and possessed with intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin. Evidence presented established that Morgan functioned primarily as a courier for a heroin trafficking organization in Western Pennsylvania. Morgan traveled frequently to Newark, N.J., with cash totaling $100,000 or more to purchase quantities of heroin from a New Jerseysourceand return them to the Pittsburgh area for distribution.
Assistant United States Attorney Margaret E. Picking prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Attorney Hickton commended the Allegheny County Police Department and the Internal Revenue Service‑Criminal Investigation for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Morgan.
