
Woman Charged In False Income Tax Filing Scheme
PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ Jamel R. Williams has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of aiding and assisting in the filing of a false return and filing a false income tax return, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
The 22-count indictment named Williams as the sole defendant.
According to indictment, Williams willfully aided and assisted in, and advised the preparation and presentation to the Internal Revenue Service of U.S. Individual Income Tax Returns of others, which bore false Schedule A itemized deductions, Schedule C business expenses, child and dependant care expenses, and un-reimbursed employee business expenses. She is also charged with filing false income tax returns related to her own income and expenses.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 66 years in prison, a fine of $5,500,000,00, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Paul E. Hull is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
