JOHNSTOWN, Pa. ‑ A resident of Alum Bank, Pa., pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of burglary of a federal firearms licensee, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.

Remington D. Stufft, 26, pleaded guilty to one  count before United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson.

In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that on July 25, 2009, Stufft burglarized the premises of a federal firearms licensee who was doing business as Long's Outpost, Inc., in New Paris, Pa., and stole a number of firearms which were inventory of the business and which had been shipped and transported in interstate and foreign commerce.

Judge Gibson scheduled sentencing for Aug. 23, 2011, at 10:00 a.m.  The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.  Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie L. Haines is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Pennsylvania State Police conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Stufft.

According to Mr. Hickton, Remington D. Stufft is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaborative effort by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and communities to prevent, deter, and prosecute gun crime.
