PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ A resident of Hampton Township has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of embezzlement and theft of labor union assets, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.

The one‑count indictment named Jennine M. Prince, 41, as the sole defendant.

According to the indictment, Prince was the former bookkeeper of Ironworkers Local 3 where she embezzled $418,070.96 of union funds for her own use by writing and cashing unauthorized union checks and taking union dues.

The law provides for a maximum total sentence of five years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.  Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Nelson P. Cohen is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

The U.S. Department of Labor conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.

An indictment or information is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
