Pittsburgh Man Charged With Heroin Possession
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - A resident of Pittsburgh, Pa., has been indicted by a federal grand jury on a charge of violating the federal narcotics laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
The one-count indictment named Jimmie McLaughlin, 34, as the sole defendant.
According to the indictment presented to the court, on or about July 8, 2011, in the Western District of Pennsylvania, McLaughlin possessed with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of not less than five years and up to 40 years in prison, a fine of $2,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Robinson Township Police conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
