Jamaican Sentenced To Prison For Marijuana Distribution Scheme
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - A citizen of Jamaica and resident of Pittsburgh has been sentenced in federal court to 30 months in prison on his conviction of violating the federal drug laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
Senior United States District Judge Alan N. Bloch imposed the sentence on David McLawrence, 29.
According to information presented to the court, from January 2004 to December 2006, McLawrence conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute up to 80 kilograms (175 pounds) of marijuana in Western Pennsylvania. McLawrence also conspired to launder thousands of dollars in drug proceeds. McLawrence had 10-pound boxes of marijuana shipped into the Pittsburgh area, paying an individual in Monroeville to accept some of the packages under a false name, and then deliver the packages to McLawrence.
Assistant United States Attorney Gregory J. Nescott prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Attorney Hickton commended the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of David McLawrence.
