Pittsburgh Resident Failed To Register As A Sex Offender
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - A resident of Pittsburgh pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of failing to register as a convicted sex offender, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
Kevin Dimpfl, age 34, pleaded guilty yesterday to one count before United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab.
In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that Dimpfl was required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act after having been convicted in 1998 in New York of the felony sex offense of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree. Between March 2010 and Sept. 29, 2010, Dimpfl traveled in interstate commerce and knowingly failed to register and update a registration, as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
Judge Schwab scheduled sentencing for May 10, 2012, at 8:30 a.m. The law provides for a total sentence of up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller is prosecuting this case on behalf of the United States.
The United States Marshals Service, the Allegheny County Police Department, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, and the Butte-Silver Bow (Montana) Law Enforcement Department conducted the investigation leading to the conviction in this case.
