Altoona Woman Sentenced For Converting Benefit Payments To Her Own Use
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. ‑ A resident of Altoona, Pa., has been sentenced in federal court to three years probation, the first nine months of which will be under home detention with electronic monitoring, 100 hours of community service, and ordered to pay the remaining balance of restitution in the amount of $16,281.92, on her conviction of conversion of government funds, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson imposed the sentence on Beverly D. Noel, 46.
According to information presented to the court, from July 2, 2004, to July 1, 2008, Noel did falsely receive and convert to her own use approximately $18,081.92, which represents 49 Supplemental Security income benefit payments made to her to which she was not entitled.
Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie L. Haines prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Attorney Hickton commended the Social Security Administration Office of Inspector General, for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Noel.
