Man Charged With Tax Evasion
PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ A Pennsylvania man has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a charge of income tax evasion, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
The 4‑ count indictment named Joseph E. Gump as the sole defendant.
According to the indictment, Gump filed federal income tax returns for the calendar years 2003 through 2006, wherein he stated in each year that the amounts of his taxable income and tax were "none," when his actual taxable income in those years ranged from $51,255.49 to $74,159.22, and the tax owed ranged from $9,484 to $15,101.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence on each count of five years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Leo M. Dillon is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
