Judge Sentenced Erie Felon To 5 Years In Prison For Illegal Gun Possession
ERIE, Pa. ‑ A resident of Erie, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court to 64 months in prison on his conviction of violating federal firearms laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
United States District Judge Sean J. McLaughlin imposed the sentence on Andrey Dimitri Austin, 28.
According to information presented to the court, Austin possessed a firearm while being a convicted felon. The case arose after Erie Police Department officers received a tip that Austin had been dealing crack cocaine. Officers arrested Austin, who possessed more than 2 grams of crack cocaine as well as a firearm.
Prior to imposing sentence, Judge McLaughlin stated that the offense was a serious one, that Austin had a significant criminal history, and that deterrence and protection of the public were among the factors that he considered in imposing sentence.
Assistant United States Attorney Christine A. Sanner prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Attorney Hickton commended the Erie Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Austin.
