Ellwood City Felon Sentenced To 4 Years In Prison For Illegally Possessing Firearms
PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ A resident of Ellwood City, Pa., has been sentenced in federal court to serve 48 months in prison for violating federal firearms and explosives laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
Senior United States District Judge Maurice B. Cohill imposed the sentence on Dean Huzinec, 49.
According to information presented to the court, Huzinec, after having been convicted of a felony crime, possessed 19 firearms, a firearm silencer, and Trenchrite explosive material on or about Aug. 17, 2008.
Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller prosecuted this case on behalf of the United States.
This case was prosecuted under Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaborative effort by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and communities to prevent, deter and prosecute gun crime.
U.S. Attorney Hickton commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Franklin Township Police Department, the Allegheny County Police Department Bomb Squad, the Beaver County District Attorney's Office, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Ellwood City Police department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Huzinec.
