PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ A resident of Washington County, Pa., has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on theft of government property, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.

The two-count indictment named Randy A. Swink, 50, as the sole defendant.

According to the indictment, between December 2005 and February 2009, Swink embezzled and misappropriated approximately $30,000 in Social Security Child Auxiliary Benefit payments, which were issued by the Social Security Administration for two minors during that time period.

The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $500,000, or both.  Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Shaun E. Sweeney is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

The Office of the Inspector General and the United States Social Security Administration, conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.

An indictment is an accusation.  A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
