Pittsburgh Man Found Guilty Of Illegally Possessing Weapon
PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ After deliberating for two hours, a federal jury of seven men and five women found Lin Rashied Jones guilty of one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
Jones, 34, of Pittsburgh, Pa., was tried before United States District Judge Donetta W. Ambrose in Pittsburgh.
According to Assistant United States Attorney Almon S. Burke, Jr., who prosecuted the case, the evidence presented at trial established that on Nov. 11, 2009, Jones, after having been convicted on Sept. 15, 1999, of the crime of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and on Oct. 25, 2000, and May 4, 2001, of the crimes of delivery of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, all of which are crimes punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, possessed a fully loaded Mac 11, 9mm semi‑automatic pistol with a 30 round magazine. Federal law prohibits anyone who has been convicted of a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year to possess a firearm or ammunition.
Judge Ambrose scheduled sentencing for Nov. 30, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. The law provides for a total sentence of life in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based on the seriousness of the offense and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Pittsburgh Police Department conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Lin Rashied Jones.
