Felon Sentenced To 28 Months In Prison For Illegally Possessing Weapon
PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ A resident of Pittsburgh, Pa., has been sentenced in federal court to 28 months in prison followed by 30 months of supervised release on his conviction of violating federal firearms laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
United States District Judge David S. Cercone imposed the sentence on Herman T. Moore, 24.
According to information presented to the court, on July30, 2010, Moore, a convicted felon, possessed an Astra, .380 caliber pistol. Moore was previously convicted in the Court of Common Pleas, Allegheny County on Dec. 4, 2008, of the crime of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. This is a crime that is punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year. Federal law prohibits anyone who has been convicted of a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year to possess a firearm.
Assistant United States Attorney Charles A. Eberle prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
This case was prosecuted as part of the Pittsburgh Initiative To Reduce Crime (PIRC), a collaborative effort by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and communities to prevent and deter the commission of violent crime in the City of Pittsburgh.
U.S. Attorney Hickton commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Moore.
