Felon Sentenced To Prison For Illegally Possessing Handgun
PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ A resident of Pittsburgh, Pa., has been sentenced in federal court to 90 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, on his conviction of violating federal firearms laws and for violating his supervised release conditions from two prior federal firearms convictions, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
Chief United States District Judge Gary L. Lancaster imposed the sentence on March 4, 2011, on Michael Cheatom, 31.
According to information presented to the court, on May 20, 2009, Cheatom possessed a Walther Model P99AS, .40 caliber gun. Because Cheatom has previously been convicted of five felony offenses, he is prohibited under federal law from possessing a firearm.
Assistant United States Attorney Barbara K. Swartz prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Attorney Hickton commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the City of Pittsburgh Police for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Michael Cheatom.
