Pittsburgh Man Charged With Drug Law Violations
PITTSBURGH, Pa. ‑ A resident of Pittsburgh, Pa., has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of violating federal drug laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
The two-count indictment, returned on March 29, 2011, named Richard Hayes, 30.
According to the indictment, Hayes conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. Hayes also attempted to possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of not less than five and up to 40 years in prison, a fine of $5,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Gregory J. Nescott is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Pennsylvania State Police conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
An indictment or information is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
