Citizen Of Mexico Charged With Illegally Re-entering United States
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - A Mexican citizen has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a charge of re-entry into the United States after deportation, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
The one-count indictment, returned on Oct. 4, named Edras Esteban-Mejilla, 20, of Mexico, as the sole defendant.
According to indictment, Edras Esteban-Mejilla, an alien, was formally removed from the United States by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Nov. 2, 2007. Edras Esteban-Mejilla was found on Sept. 12, 2011, in Irwin, Pennsylvania.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of two years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant. Defendant has been placed on detention.
Assistant United States Attorney James R. Wilson is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
