PITTSBURGH, Pa. - A resident of McKeesport, Pa., has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a charge of violating federal narcotics laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.

The one-count indictment, returned on Oct. 26, named Christopher L. Perovich, 27.

According to the indictment, Perovich did knowingly, intentionally, and unlawfully conspire with others, both known and unknown, to distribute and possess with intent to distribute a quantity of oxycodone, including oxycodone in the forms of OxyContin and Roxicodone, Schedule II controlled substances, from on or about Feb. 26, 2009, to on or about June 21, 2010.

The law provides for a maximum total sentence of not more than 20 years in prison, a fine of $1,000,000, or both.  Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Margaret E. Picking is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

The Drug Enforcement Administration conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.

An indictment is an accusation.  A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
