Doctor Sentenced To Prison For Tax Evasion
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Dr. David P. Alan has been sentenced in federal court to 21 months in prison, a $40,000.00 fine, and three years supervised release on his conviction of tax evasion, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
Senior United States District Judge Alan N. Bloch imposed the sentence on David Alan.
According to information presented to the court, Dr. David P. Alan engaged in a scheme to inflate cost of goods sold deductions for his limited liability corporation for tax year 2004 using an offshore shell corporation and bank account to reduce the income from his business reportable on his individual tax returns. Dr. Alan employed the same scheme in tax years 2001-2003, filing false individual joint tax returns for tax years 2001 and 2002.
After imposing sentence, Judge Bloch stated that Dr. Alan's community contributions, impact on his employees, and family obligations did not justify a non-incarceration sentence. Judge Bloch described Dr. Alan's tax evasion as a scheme that was complex, elaborate and deliberate that utilized his employees. Finally, Judge Bloch described Dr. Alan as "defiant" and "evasive."
Assistant United States Attorney Paul E. Hull prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Attorney Hickton commended the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of David Alan.
