Felon Charged with Violating Federal Firearms Laws
ERIE, Pa. - A resident of Erie, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Erie on a charges of violating federal firearm violations, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
The three-count indictment named Joseph Lee Ollie, 53, as the sole defendant.
According to the indictment presented to the court, on or about November 25, 2011, Ollie unlawfully possessed a stolen Mossberg Model 500 shotgun, while being prohibited from firearm possession because he is a convicted felon. In addition, according to the Indictment, at the time Ollie possessed the stolen firearm, he was subject to a domestic abuse restraining order, prohibiting him from firearm possession.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 30 years in prison, a fine of $750,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Marshall J. Piccinini is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Pennsylvania State Police conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
