South Hills Man Pleads Guilty To Selling Illegally-Obtained Oxycodone
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - A resident of Pittsburgh, Pa., pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of violating federal narcotics laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
Daniel Saamus Malady, 30, pleaded guilty to one count before Senior United States District Judge Gustave Diamond.
In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that Malady sold illegally-obtained oxycodone to drug-dependent persons in the South Hills area. The oxycodone was acquired through an illegal prescription ring which forged prescriptions for oxycodone and presented them at area pharmacies.
Judge Diamond scheduled sentencing for Aug. 29, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. The law provides for a total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $1,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
The defendant remains detained pending sentencing.
Assistant United States Attorney Margaret E. Picking is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Drug Enforcement Administration, Mt. Lebanon Police Department, South Park Police Department, Pleasant Hills Police Department, Bethel Park Police Department, North Versailles Police Department, Whitehall Police Department, City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Allegheny County Probation/Parole Office, Allegheny County District Attorney's Office and the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Malady.
