Guatemalan Charged with Illegally Re-entering U.S. after Deportation
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - An individual found by the Pennsylvania State Police has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of re-entry into the United States after deportation, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
The indictment, returned on Nov. 27, named William Munoz-Garcia, 33, formerly from Izabal, Guatemala, as the sole defendant.
According to indictment, William Munoz-Garcia, an alien, was removed from the United States on September 25, 2003. Munoz-Garcia was found in Allegheny County on Nov. 10, 2012, without having been given permission to re-enter the United States.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of two years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Shardul S. Desai is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
