Pittsburgh Man Charged with Possessing Heroin
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Ricco Sears has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh for violating federal narcotics laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
The one-count indictment, returned on Dec. 18, named Sears, 27, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as the sole defendant.
According to the indictment, Sears, on Aug. 2, 2012, possessed heroin with intent to distribute it.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of up to 30 years in prison, a fine of up to $2,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller is prosecuting this case on behalf of the United States.
The Drug Enforcement Administration, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police investigated this case.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
