Uniontown Felon Sentenced To 15 Years In Prison For Illegally Possessing Weapons
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - A resident of Uniontown, Pa., has been sentenced in federal court to 180 months imprisonment followed by five years supervised release on his conviction of violating federal firearms laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
United States District Judge David S. Cercone imposed the sentence on Von Hilton Weygandt, 30.
According to information presented to the court, on or about Aug. 28, 2009, Weygandt, a convicted felon, possessed three pistols, one of which had been reported stolen. Weygandt was previously convicted in 2006, in two separate cases, of the crime of Possession With Intent to Deliver controlled substances, and in 2000, of Aggravated Assault. These are all crimes that are punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year. Federal law prohibits anyone who has been convicted of a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year to possess a firearm.
Assistant United States Attorney Almon S. Burke, Jr. prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Attorney Hickton commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Pennsylvania State Police for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Weygandt.
This case was prosecuted under Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaborative effort by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and communities to prevent, deter and prosecute gun crime.
