Pittsburgh Man Facing Counterfeiting Charges
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - A resident of Allegheny County, Pa., has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of making counterfeit money, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
The three-count indictment named Shawn V. Jones, 43, as the sole defendant.
According to the indictment, Jones made $1,000 in photocopied counterfeit federal reserve notes in $20 and $10 denominations from Dec. 9 through Dec. 12, 2011. He also is charged with passing counterfeit currency at a local pub on Dec. 13, 2011.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 60 years in prison, a fine of $750,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Paul E. Hull is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The U.S. Secret Service and the O’Hara Township Police Department conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
