New Jersey Man Pleads Guilty In Heroin Trafficking Conspiracy
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - A resident of Wallington, New Jersey, pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of violating the federal narcotics laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
Wesley A. McDaniels, a/k/a "Young," 32, pleaded guilty to one count before United States District Judge Terrence F. McVerry.
In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that, from in or around February 2009, to on or about May 9, 2011, in the Western District of Pennsylvania and elsewhere, McDaniels conspired to possess with intent to distribute and distribute 100 grams or more of heroin.
Judge McVerry scheduled sentencing for 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 14, 2012. The law provides for a maximum total sentence of not less than 10 years and up to life in prison, a fine of $8,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Pending sentencing, the court continued the order of detention.
Assistant United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Drug Enforcement Administration conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of McDaniels.
