ATTLEBORO MAN SENTENCED FOR PAWTUCKET BANK ROBBERY

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Craig Forest, 29, of Attleboro, Mass., was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Providence to 46 months in federal prison for robbing a Pawtucket credit union in July 2009. Forest was indicted by a federal grand jury in December of robbing the Broadway branch of the Pawtucket Credit Union of $1,300.

The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Peter F. Neronha, which was imposed by U.S. District Court Judge William E. Smith.

Based on information from surveillance photographs and from witness statements, police canvassed the area immediately after the holdup and located clothing matching what the robber had been wearing. Four days after the robbery, a Pawtucket police detective recognized the defendant who was sitting at a bus stop. Forest was taken into custody without incident by Pawtucket Police.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Zechariah Chafee. The matter was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Pawtucket Police.
