FEDERAL PROSECUTORS TO MONITOR COMPLAINTS OF
ELECTION FRAUD AND VOTING RIGHTS ABUSES IN R.I.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – United States Attorney Peter F. Neronha announced Sunday that Assistant U. S. Attorney Terrence P. Donnelly will lead the Justice Department’s nationwide Election Day Program in Rhode Island for the upcoming November 2, 2010 general elections. Mr. Donnelly has been appointed to serve as the District Election Officer for the District of Rhode Island, and is responsible for overseeing complaints of election fraud and voting rights abuses in consultation with The Department of Justice in Washington.
United States Attorney Neronha said, “Every citizen must be able to vote without interference or discrimination and to have that vote counted without it being stolen because of fraud. My Office and The Department of Justice will act promptly and aggressively to protect the integrity of the election process.”
The U.S. Attorney’s Office will be available during voting hours to receive complaints of election fraud or voting rights abuses, and to ensure that complaints are directed to the appropriate authorities. Members of the public wishing to report voting concerns to the U.S. Attorney’s Office during voting hours should call 401-709-5306.
In addition, agents from the FBI will be available to receive allegations of election fraud and other election abuses on Election Day. The FBI can be reached by the public at 401-272-8310.
Complaints about ballot access problems or discrimination can also be made directly to the Civil Rights Division’s Voting Section in Washington at 1-800-253-3931 or 202-307-2767.
